TYPHOON WARNING !

Not a tropical storm, but the state-of-the art RAF jet.

The plane carries an illustrious name.

The original Typhoon was a successor to the versatile Hawker Hurricane, and appeared towards the end of the Second World, a fast and formidable fighter bomber, that saw wide service in Europe.

The modern Typhoon is a multi-role aircraft which can fly at Mach 1.8, which is by any definition quite nippy.

The display aircraft is based at RAF Coningsby, which is an operational RAF base, but is better known as the home of the Battle of Britain Flight.

As a venue for the display, Withernsea is in pretty exotic company, since apart from well-known British venues, such as Duxford and Blackpool, displays will also take place in the Czech Republic, Canada and Sweden – so bringing the Typhoon to Withernsea is no mean achievement, and puts the town in some pretty impressive company.

The event promises to be an unforgettable experience. The aircraft is set to conduct a flypast off the promenade at just five hundred feet, providing a spectacular sight, and a level of noise guaranteed to make the average cat's hair stand on end.

Since the event takes place over the sea, it means that the public will have an unrestricted view.

The Typhoon is often seen in the skies above us, but seldom at such a low level, and its appearance at the Blue Light Festival is likely to attract aircraft fans as well as the general public.
