YORKSHIRE Air Ambulance helicopters fly seven days a week, 365 days a year.
One helicopter has crew consisting of a pilot, a Technical Crew Member (TCM), a Consultant Doctor with experience in A&E with a specialism in Anaesthesiology, and two Specialist Critical Care Paramedics.
The other helicopter flies with a pilot, a qualified TCM and two Specialist Critical Care Paramedics. Together, they form a highly skilled team that responds to those in urgent need or emergency care, starting their specialised treatment at the scene of an incident before they are transported to an appropriate major trauma centre or another hospital for further medical care.
A team of fabulous fundraisers and office staff work to ensure that our charity continues to be here for the people of Yorkshire and is backed up by our wonderful family of volunteers, without whom the work we do would not be possible.
We operate two H145-D3 helicopters, G-YAAA and G-YORX. They are based between our two airbases, Nostell Air Support Unit near Wakefield in West Yorkshire and RAF Top Cliffe near Thirsk in North Yorkshire.
Our t helicopters are state-of-the-art, built and supplied by Airbus Helicopters. They have bespoke HEMS interiors filled out by Bucher to accommodate the needs of our crews. They have been founded by the generosity of the public through donations, grant funding, and the sale of our previous two helicopters.
Where does our funding come from? It is a misconception that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance has government funding and falls under the NHS.
It doesn't.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity, and is heavily reliant on the generosity of the public and other sources to keep the service active.
Our main fundraising focus has always been to educate the people of Yorkshire about the service. Our funding comes from the public and a diverse range of other sources, all united in their dedication to support our cause .
Every contribution, big or small, plays a vital role in keeping our helicopters in the sky and our lifesaving mission possible.
The kindness of our corporate sponsors, and local community groups create unique events across our region, along with a host of trusts and grants to help us fund vital equipment.
Our dedicated ‘Saving Lives Loto’ players and generous regular givers – each donation make a significant impact on our ability to respond swiftly to emergencies across the region.
So, thank you Yorkshire, for being so good to us! Your support ensures that we can continue to be there for you, when you need us most.
