The Military Village

The Military Village returns to Blue Light Weekend bigger than ever, stretching across a wide area from Brick Pond towards the cliff-top end of the site.

Organised by Julie Walker and Dan Welch, the Military Village will bring together land, sea and air displays, Armed Forces stalls, charity stands, vehicles, activities and entertainment across the weekend. Visitors can learn more about the Army, Royal Navy and RAF, celebrate those who serve and have served, and enjoy a busy but relaxed area designed for all ages.

There will be plenty to explore, including the return of the Typhoon Simulator, a military barrier and sentry box selfie spot, stalls from groups including Withernsea Army Cadets, Withernsea Scouts, Duke of Edinburgh, Hull 4 Heroes and the Royal Navy Youth Engagement Team, plus Tyler Mallen’s museum raising money for Help for Heroes.

A new Military Village merchandise stall will offer mugs, T-shirts, caps, keyrings, bags, belts and gifts, while food and drink will include cakes from Baked by Ami, ice creams from Timy’s, rum cocktails from Rum To You, pizza from Tow the Dough, coffee from Waves Coffee on the Go and more.

The Star Tent, complete with straw bales, will be a buzzing hub of entertainment throughout the weekend, compered by Seaside FM’s Alex B Cann, with wartime classics, vintage vocals, themed music, speakers and the return of Winston Churchill.

There will also be freebies, gift bags, a quiz and plenty of Military Village and Blue Light Weekend volunteers on hand to help visitors make the most of the area.
